“五颜六色”的短语

　　英语中表示“颜色”的词，和汉语一样，是丰富多彩的。它们的引申含义更是肌极富想象，有时更是妙趣横生。现在分别摘录一些例子，以供欣赏。

　　一． BLUE
　　Blue 本义是“蓝色”，但它还有“沮丧”（sad and without hope ）的意思。

　　例句：（1）I’m feeling rather blue today. 我今天觉得很沮丧。
　　这层引申的含义有时也出现在一些习惯用语中。
　　例句：（2）You can call that dog till you’re blue in your face but he’ll never come . 不管你怎样叫唤，那只沟也不会过来。
　　例句：（3）中的till you’re blue in your face意思是“永远不会成功”（unsuccessfully forever），直译则为“直到你（叫唤的）脸上（气的）发紫感到沮丧为止。
　　此外，blue有时还可以指“蓝天“。
