Working Together

Once a man had a dream in which his hands, feet, mouth and brain began to rebel1 against his stomach.
The hands said, "We work all day long, lifting and carrying. And you just sit there."
"We agree!"cried the feet. "We walk all day long. And you just stuff2 yourself."
"That’s right!"said the mouth. "I have to chew food for you, and you just suck it all up for yourself."
The brain called, "I have to think about where your next meal is?"
And many parts of the body joined the complaints against the stomach, but it didn’t say anything.
"I have an idea,"the brain said. "Let’s all stop working for the lazy guy."
"Good idea!"all the other members agreed. So they all stopped working. The hands refused to do lifting and carrying. The feet refused to walk. The mouth promised not to chew. And the brain stopped coming up with any bright idea. At first the stomach growled3, as it always did when it was hungry. But after a while it was quiet. www.joozone.com
To the man’s surprise, he found he could do nothing.
The dream seemed to go on for several days. The man felt worse and worse.
Meanwhile, the hands, feet, mouth and brain just lay there, getting weaker and weaker. At first they complained to the stomach, but before long they didn’t even have the energy to do that.
Finally the man heard a weak voice coming from his feet.
"Maybe we were wrong,"they said. "The stomach might have been working in his own way."
"I was thinking the same thing,"said the brain. "It’s true that he got all the food. But it seems he’s been sending most of it right back to us.""Then let’s get back to work,"they said. And the man woke up.
He was happy to find that he was healthy. "Here’s a lesson for me,"he thought. "Either we all work together, or nothing works at all."
