造句
写好句子是提高英语短文写作的关键。通过磨练造句能力，可以更好地学习和使用词汇。在造好句子的基础上，才能更多地考虑句子与句子的连接，建构逻辑性强的段落。所以，在写作课中，教师必须要求学生在频繁的写作实践中避免造句中常见的语病现象，最终造出正确的、完整的、连贯的句子。
一、怎样写好句子
动笔造句子就是开始写文章了。句子实际上就是在小的规模上作文，它应该拥有整篇文章所有的要素。句子的质量自然就是文章质量的基础。
我们从以下几个方面来说明一个好句子的标准。
1.
主谓要一致。
英语句子一般都要有主语和谓语，因此主谓一致是经常遇到的问题。所谓"主谓一致"就是指句子的主语和谓语在人称和数上应该一致。主谓不一致,这个句子的基本构架就没有搭好。
要做到主谓一致，首先要正确理解英语数的概念，把握住名词的数，使用相应的谓语动词;其次要知道主谓一致本身遵循三条原则：语法协调、意念协调和邻近吸引。
(1) 语法协调
在运用这条原则时，要注意下面几个问题：(1)主语中的中心词;(2)冠词的使用;(3)连接词的使用。
A.主语中的中心词
请看下面的例子：
The number of students taking the TOEFL test is growing rapidly. 本句的主语中心词是number, of students是修饰number的定语，所以谓语动词要用单数。
A number of students are still studying in the reading-room of the library.
本句中的主语中心词是students, a number of 相当于many，是students的限定词，所以谓语动词要用复数形式，常用的这类限定词有：a lot of, lots of , a couple of ,plenty of , a number of ,a variety of ......
B. 冠词的使用
请看下面的例句：
The doctor and nurse is in the ward taking good care of the old woman.
本句中doctor和nurse共用一个定冠词，说明doctor和nurse是一个人，
医生兼护士。故谓语动词用单数。
The doctor and the nurse are in the ward taking good care of the old woman. 句中doctor和nurse前各有一个定冠词，明显地表明医生和护士是两个人。故谓语动词用复数。
The black and white dog was running after the cat. 句中的dog是一条黑底白花的狗，动词用单数。From joozone.com.
The black and the white dogs are running after the cat. 此句的主语却是一条黑狗和一条白狗，谓语用复数形式。可见，在理解主语的数的时候，要注意冠词的使用。
C. 连接词的使用
在主谓一致的问题上，要注意复合主语中连接词的使用。请看下面的例句：
Light, sound and electricity are forms of energy. 句中的复合主语使用的连接词是"and"，表示增加的意思，两个单数相加成为复数，故谓语动词用复数，常用的这类连接词有：and, both...and... 等。
Either the school paper or the yearbook pays the expenses. 使用的连接词是"either...or..."，这种连接词表示一种选择，所以不是两个单数的相加，而是两者择一，故在所连接的两个名词都是单数时，其谓语动词应该是单数。常用的这类连接词有：or, either...or..., nor, neither...nor...等。
The lawyer, as well as his former college friend, was on his trip to Europe.
本句使用as well as连接，这是准连接词。尽管"friend"和"lawyer"
是两个人，而且两个人一起去，但是谓语动词还是要用单数，因为只有lawyer才是句中的主语。这类准连接词常用的有：as much as, as well as, but (除了),except, no less than, rather than, together with, with等。
关于准连接词，下面再举几个例子：
I, as well as you, shall not go .
My friends rather than I are eager to take part in the experiment.
Her sisters no less than she are glad to meet you.
The engineer, more than the workers is responsible for it.
All the boys but John, agree with the suggestion.
The chairman, as much as the members of the board of directors, has done the job.
从上面例子可以看到，这些单词或词组，只起意义上的连接，却不起语法上的连接，我们称它们为准连接词。
(2) 意念协调
意念协调指的是从主语所表达的意念出发，来决定谓语动词在数上与主语取得一致。
请看下面的例句：
Of all the arguments he brought forward , none has a shred of evidence. 在此句中，none是not one的意思，强调没有一个，故谓语用单数。
None of his works display any familiarity with the life in the countryside.中的none是not any的意思，强调全部作品，在所有的作品中都找不到熟悉乡村生活的迹象，谓语动词需要用复数。
Two days is too short a time for me to finish the assignment.句中的two days虽然是复数，但却被当作整个一段时间看待，故谓语动词用单数。总的说来，意念协调原则更多地从作者的意念出发，它和语法协调原则起相互补充的作用。
