英语故事：一群傻子

The Fools

Once there were nine fools. They crossed a river hand by hand. After crossing the river, an old fool asked, “Are we all here? Let me count, one, two, three… seven, eight. Only eight!”

“Who is missing? One of us is surely in the river.” They cried.

They counted again and again, but there were only eight. A passerby saw and asked them, “What is wrong with you?” the fools told him about it. Then the passerby helped them count again, “One, two… eight, nine. It’s nine now.”

After the passerby went away, they counted again, but there were only eight. So they cried near the river.

一群傻子

从前，有九个傻子，他们手拉手一起过河。过河之后，一个年纪大的傻子问：“大家都在吗？让我来数一下，一，二，三…七，八，只有八个人！”

“谁不在呢？肯定有一个人掉河里了。”傻子们嚷嚷道。

他们数了一次又一次，可是还是八个。

一个路人看见后走过来问：“出了什么事？”傻子们把这件事告诉了他。然后，路人帮他们数了一次，“一，二……八九，现在是九个人。”

路人走后傻子们又数了一遍，结果仍然是八个人，于是他们坐在河边大哭起来。
